Personal project.
H.R Giger’s original Alien creature design is so masterful in its ability to elicit fear; a threatening appearance augmented by its weaponized armoured body. The creature’s fusion of sexually evocative physical and behavioural characteristics creating a nightmare vision. All this, of course, dressed in the colour association you would expect; black, or very close to it.
I challenged myself to create a new alien creature variant and wanted to retain all these key traits in a new design. Namely a dark armoured exoskeleton, similar ‘visor’ head-shape and four limbs, either bipedal or quadrupedal, using plantigrade or digitigrade locomotion. This sticks to the brief as all of these movement types - or a combination of them - have already been explored in the films.
We’ve had the ‘dog’ alien design, so my first thought was, what about something vaguely based on a big cat? I’ve always found the male lion to be particularly intimidating visually. I also liked the idea of the hand-like design of the facehugger incorporated somehow into one larger creature. Other inspiration were favourite designs, such as the human/alien hybrid ‘newborn’ from the fourth movie.
